The new Secondary RE network meeting being established by The Linking Network aims to provide RE teachers with an opportunity to share their voice, good practice and provide a space to discuss the challenges we currently face.
The first meeting will be held on Wednesday 1st November, 4.00 to 5.15 pm at Bradford Cathedral.
Religious Education teachers are under huge pressure through changes in exam specifications, lack of curriculum time and an increasing number of teachers without a specialist background in RE.
Our primary purpose will be to raise standards of RE across all stages in Secondary schools by giving teachers an opportunity to enhance their subject knowledge, pedagogy and curriculum planning. We would also like the network to provide support for both specialist and the many non-specialist teachers who are required to teach out of their subject and sometimes comfort zone.
RE is crucial to enhancing the SMSC development of children in schools and considering the challenging world that we live in, RE has never been as relevant as it is now. It is crucial that the delivery, planning and context of RE is analysed with depth and rigour.
We plan to fulfil our primary aim through TeachMeets. We will also invite key speakers who are also able to share their expertise. Ultimately, we would like our meetings to help us create a bank of resources and even an RE toolkit.
