Burnley: Excited about Virtual Linking!

20/07/2020

The Burnley Schools Linking Programme is led by Burnley and Pendle Faith Centre, Lancashire County Council.  The Faith Centre’s engagement with schools was enhanced and extended by joining The Linking Network in 2017 and is growing steadily.

This year, we had a great start with CPD1.  Burnley Youth Theatre, AFC Fylde and FUNDA  providing neutral visits sessions for our 24 Schools;  41 classes took part, with 1,128 pupils from Yr2 up to Yr6.

You all know what happened in March! Understandably Schools had other priorities, so unfortunately linking did not continue.   However, we’re really excited about our Virtual Linking in 2020 / 2021 We have familiar schools returning and new schools joining us for the experience. Burnley Youth Theatre, Heritage Learning Lancashire and FUNDA will be offering schools interactive digital workshops: – drama, storytelling and football. We can’t wait!

What do schools Say about our linking programme?

Children are so excited to see their new friends again. They talk about their new friends frequently.”

“Good opportunity to show diversity to the children.”

“It was a joy to see them so enthusiastic about meeting new people and wanting to keep in touch.”

“…one little girl who called people from other cultures ‘they’ or ‘them’ (but now she) fully embraced the experiences she has had …. She has opened her mind and this has extended to all aspects of her personality”
