Finally, a face-to-face meeting!

During Schools Linking Celebration Week 2022, children from Linden Primary School, Leicester visited their link class from St Margaret’s C of E Primary in Stoke Golding. The opportunity for a face-to-face meeting had finally become possible and everyone was so excited! The two schools, one inner city and one extremely rural are approximately 20 miles apart and have been linked for the first time this year. Despite many of the children having some initial preconceived misconceptions about each other, their homes and lives, the remote exchanges had allowed the children time to explore these and build their ‘confidence-in-contact’, before they met in person.

A fantastic morning was had by all – involving cooperative and competitive team games led a professional sports coach and a picnic on the school field. It was just so amazing to see the children meeting and making friends in person!

BBC East Midlands Today, Social Affairs reporter, Jeremy Ball, attended to film and interview the children and adults involved and created a report that explains the impact that schools linking has. Watch the item on the BBC East Midlands Today here .
