Big Schools’ Birdwatch at Anchor Hallcroft

Children from High Crags Primary Leadership Academy joined their friends at Anchor Hallcroft recently to take part in an intergenerational session themed around the Big Schools’ Birdwatch.

Celebrating National Bird Day, together pupils and residents created bird feeders for Hallcroft’s garden and spotted different species of birds.
“I think it’s so lovely that our age group is mixing with younger ones and that we can do things together. It helps them as well, to associate with older people. You don’t want this big gap with no interaction, nothing in common. So this is lovely.”

Children from High Crags Primary Academy enjoy monthly visits to Hallcroft, including a festive Christmas choir visit back in December and regular bingo and games afternoons. The Link also took part in the International Play project last year.

“A lot of older people are very lonely, even though we have activities here…This gives them connection, with each other and with younger people. It brings a smile to their face, brings a bit of joy, a bit of happiness. They do form a bond, there’s friendships. It’s something for the children and residents to look forward to.”
