How to be a Lion

This is a great book for exploring identity and the different ways to be truly who you are. One of our favourite lines in this book is ‘You don’t have to roar to be heard’. The unlikely friendship between Marianne the Duck and Leonard the Lion is strong and a role model for us all. As a team, we love reading this book with children so we are just delighted that Ed Vere has just shared a video below of himself reading the book for us all while we are #HomeLinking- thank you Ed!

You may just want to enjoy listening to the story – but if you would like to do something additional, we’ve made a PowerPoint with some things you might talk about the book and some ideas on ways to make yourself a lion out of materials at home.

Rupert wears a new jumper and, without meaning to, causes an uproar! Though soon, this trend catches on. Help the Hueys be unique with their jumper choices, by designing a jumper that they could wear. This activity creates a chance to help children think about how everyone has different preferences and that this is something that is perfectly ok. In fact, this  is something that we can all enjoy together!

Design A Huey Hat

The Hueys have decided that they would love a new hat. Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to design one that you think they might like and wear! Again, this activity gives a chance to talk about the wonderful fact that we all have different preferences and that this is to be celebrated. You could make newspaper hats and if you connect on video calls with others maybe everyone could make a hat to wear?

Time To Reflect On Our Feelings

We’ve created a PowerPoint all about our feelings inspired by  the wonderful book ‘Only One You’ by Linda Kranz.  Adri the fish listens to the wise words of his parents who tell him that it’s important to ‘set aside some quiet time to relax and reflect everyday.’ We couldn’t agree more. This PowerPoint will help your child think about what they’re feeling during this difficult time and encourage them to discuss their emotions with those around them they trust.
