“Wishing wasn’t enough. Someone needed to speak out. Why not me?”
This book is a thoughtfully written and beautifully illustrated text which is age appropriate for use in primary school. We have seen it used to inspire all children about education and also about girls’ empowerment. Many schools have told the story about wishing to see change and asked children to think about the change they would like to see. It’s a a great starting point for understanding the power of youth, social action and building active citizenship. It encourages children to use their voice in a positive way to change their lives and the lives of others which is what social action is all about.
We’ve created a powerpoint that works really well with this story and gets children thinking about how to use their voices in a positive to bring change. It’s inspired by the poet Matt Goodfellow and based on his poem ‘Choose.’ Bitter Words and Better Words
