These resources help children to achieve objectives taken from the PSHE Association Programme of Study KS1 & KS2 Core Theme 3 Living in the Wider World, particularly the strands of ‘Shared Responsibilities’ and ‘Communities’. n addition, these resources will help children to achieve objectives from the Citizenship Programme of Study for Ks1 & KS2. Specific objectives are outlined at on the PowerPoint for each resource.

 

Here We Are

This resource uses the book, Here We Are, a wonderfully illustrated book by Oliver Jeffers, where readers are taken on a tour of Earth.  The key messages of acceptance, kindness and caring for the planet (and its inhabitants) are conveyed in a simple yet effective way. Use this PowerPoint to explore these key themes.

Under the Same Sky

This resource uses the book Under the Same Sky with the inclusive message of ‘togetherness’.   It is great for younger children with thought provoking ideas about how we all live under the same sky and the children’s own  hopes and dreams.

Hopes and Dreams

This resource has a look at key figures, some of whom children may recognise and explores the hopes and dreams that these individuals have for themselves and for others. Using this as inspiration, children then think about hopes and dreams they have not only for themselves but for others and the world that we live in.

The Secret Sky Garden

This resource looks at the book The Secret Sky Garden, which is an excellent primary read. It prompts thought on the importance of caring for the environment and explores the importance of friendship.

Freedom Park

This resource uses ideas from the fantastic book ‘We Are All Born Free‘ by Amnesty, Freedom Park shows Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: “We all have the right to life”.  Children can explore the different messages they can see within the image , they can also create their very own version of Freedom Park!  Powerpoint 1   Powerpoint 2

 

Together Poem

This resource based on the poem ‘Together’ by Matt Goodfellow helps children explore the power of ‘togetherness’ and the importance of working together. After reading the poem, children have a go at creating their own.

Kindness

This resource will help children about how they can be kinder and about the positive impact this can have on others. Use this PowerPoint to talk about ways we can spread kindness through small (and big) acts. As well as thinking here are some things you could make – a Kindness Jar, a Kindness Hand, a Kindness Chatterbox or even a Kindness Calendar.

Julia Donaldson

Here’s an activity that will allow children to talk about the changes that have taken place in our lives recently. The wonderful Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler have updated their storybook characters to fit with the current times. We’ve created a PowerPoint and some questions to accompany their work.
