TLN Secondary Resources
Creating a Peace Rainbow…

The aim of this resource is to allow pupils to reflect and explore ways to respond to a tragic incident or difficult events in a thoughtful way. Hopefully, it will also remind pupils that the acts of one group or groups does not reflect the beliefs or practises of the majority. It should also allow pupils to reflect on positive ways forward- following an incident or events that may disturb or shock them.

Seeing the Bigger Picture: How to avoid misinformation
This session explores why it is good to be sceptical about what you read on the web. The internet is amazing, but we need to be careful and keep asking questions about the reliability of information online.

Deconstructing Propaganda Video Clips
7 two minute video clips were created by Digital Disruption to teach students to deconstruct propaganda- they illustrate seven strategies that are used and are good dialogue starters: Scapegoating, Omission, Assertion, Bandwagon, Lesser of two evils, Transfer, Down with the kids.

Bandwagon video ‘Being influenced to follow the
crowd in order to fit in, because
everyone else is doing it’

Assertion video ‘Saying something like it’s a fact,
but really it’s just a statement that
mayor may not be true’

Lesser of two evils video ‘Convincing you to make a bad
choice by comparing it to
something worse when there could
be another option’

Scapegoating video ‘Blaming a problem on one
person/group of people, even
though there could be other
factors involved’

Down with the kids video ‘Acting differently in order to be
accepted by a group so they will
listen to you’

Transfer video ‘Transferring what you think or feel
about one thing onto another thing’

Omission video ‘Missing out small facts which
radically change the meaning of
the message’
