‘Every Child a Song’ by Nicola Davies was written to celebrate 30 years since UNCRC (United Nations Convention Rights of the Child) was introduced. Nicola reads the book herself here on video.
The beautiful book looks at what is needed to help us each grow, such as love, belonging and home and the things that can wear us away to silence, such as darkness, hate and war. It encourages us all to think about the value of human rights and speak up for others all around the world and to treat one another with compassion and kindness. As a child reads this they are reminded that they are unique and special and that they can change the world by being themselves,by being kind and by welcoming those who are new. It would be good for all classrooms and we use it in Schools Linking as we think about connecting with another group of children who we don’t yet know.
